Shelby Tomek Joins REMAX Gold in Lodi
For Shelby, real estate has always been about relationships, community, and helping people navigate major life moments. Before entering the industry six years ago, she spent more than a decade working in the wine business after graduating from San Jose State University with a degree in Global Studies. While in college, Shelby began working in a wine bar and eventually earned her Certified Sommelier certification, launching a career in an industry that is deeply rooted in her hometown of Lodi.
However, as her family grew, Shelby began looking for a career that would allow her to stay connected to people while offering more flexibility. Real estate became the natural next step.
“I’ve always loved sales and connecting with people,” Shelby says. “My husband and I had talked about getting into real estate investing and flipping homes, and when we started planning for another baby, he encouraged me to explore becoming an agent.”
Shelby launched her real estate career in 2020 during the fast-moving pandemic market. While the early years required adapting quickly to a competitive environment, the experience helped her refine how she approaches her business today. She now focuses on building strong relationships with the clients she works with rather than simply increasing transaction volume.
Recently, Shelby made another important transition in her career by joining REMAX Gold, a move she says was driven largely by the tools, support, and brand recognition the company provides.
Prior to joining REMAX, Shelby had worked with a smaller boutique brokerage. While the experience was valuable, she realized that many of the marketing tools and technology platforms agents need to compete in today’s market often come at a significant cost when working independently.
“One of the biggest things that drew me to REMAX was the tools they provide agents,” she explains. “A lot of brokerages don’t offer those resources, or agents must go out and purchase them on their own. Having those systems already in place makes it much easier to focus on serving clients.”
The strength of the REMAX brand also played a major role in her decision. Shelby notes that the brand recognition extends far beyond the local market.
“REMAX is recognized everywhere,” she says. “I travel internationally and nationally, and you see the brand everywhere. It’s nice to be part of something that people already know and trust.”
Since joining REMAX Gold, Shelby has also been impressed by the supportive culture within the office. She says fellow agents have been quick to offer guidance, collaboration, and even help cover client needs when schedules overlap.
“The Lodi office really feels like a team environment,” she says. “People are willing to help each other and share ideas. That kind of support makes a big difference.”
