Serving Yolo County Since 1979, Don Sharp’s Real Estate Journey
With nearly five decades in real estate, Don’s career is rooted in both experience and community. After earning his degree in real estate, land use planning, and finance, at Sacramento State University, he found his way into the industry almost by chance. While finishing school, a classmate suggested he meet a local lending professional. Within days, Don was working in real estate loans, serving Yolo County. But it didn’t take long for brokers he encountered to encourage him toward sales. After just one year in lending, he earned his broker’s license in 1979 and joined a Woodland realty office, where he built a 14-year foundation before eventually opening his own brokerage.
Don quickly realized that real estate sales offered something unique: equal opportunity. “This business gives everyone the same chance to succeed,” he said. Over the years, he’s drawn inspiration from professionals of all backgrounds achieving extraordinary results. That inclusivity, and the ability to directly serve his own community, confirmed he had made the right move.
Since 1979, Don has witnessed dramatic industry changes. What began as one-page listing agreements has evolved into hundreds of pages of forms. While he appreciates advancements in consumer protection, he believes professionalism and hands-on mentorship are more important than ever. He advises new agents to seek strong broker support and real-time guidance, something he values at REMAX Gold’s traditional office model.
A past president of the Yolo County Association of Realtors and over 30-year Rotary Club of Woodland Sunrise member and Past President, Don sees involvement as essential. “Our business comes from our community,” he said. Through every market shift, one principle remains constant for Don: spend less time preparing to do business, and more time doing it.
